Days 5-7

Hi all! The last several days here have been hectic, but rewarding. We are setting up a "telehealth" unit here in the hospital that will allow our local physicians to consult with specialists at the University of Miami. In addition, Cisco Systems, the large IT company, is setting up a video conferencing terminal that will allow our patients to speak with and see their relatives/friends at a similar terminal in Little Haiti (in Miami). The event will be well publicized, with ABC and FOX News providing coverage.

On Friday March 2 I flew out to Cap Haitien, Haiti's second-largest city on Air Salsa....great name for an airline, but doesn't inspire much confidence. The flight took 23 minutes, compared to a 10+ hour drive. Cap Haitien was physically untouched by the earthquake, and it was great to see what Port-au-Prince must have been like some 3 months ago.

Cap has a French colonial feel, and is a very tropical, wet city. Think New Orleans in the 1800s. We visited the largest hospital, Le Justinien, and spoke to them about potentially installing a "telehealth" unit at their facility. The hospital was built in 1890 and sits on a large, well manicured estate. The pictures simply don't do it justice.
